Automated Visitor Access & Membership Management at Prestigious Country House

Powerscourt Estate

Powerscourt Estate is a stunning 18th century house and gardens located in Ireland, ranked in top 10 houses in the world by Lonely Planet and voted the no. 3 garden in the world by National Geographic. The estate is framed by picturesque mountainsides, featuring Ireland’s highest waterfall, and is located just a short drive away from Dublin.

Attracting 250,000 visitors worldwide each year, as well as annual members, Powerscourt is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland, with guests keen to explore the beautiful 47 acre gardens, tee off on one of its two championship golf courses or simply enjoy the food and drink on offer.

With such a large number of visitors, Powerscourt wanted to upgrade its access control system to a Paxton Net2 system to take advantage of its powerful feature-set and reliability. Intreba was contacted by Powerscourt’s installer, Pioneer Security, to integrate the new Net2 system with an existing EPoS (Electronic Point of Sale) system, supplied by Retail Integration.

Working closely with Pioneer Security, Intreba developed the software conduit between the EPoS system and the physical access points at Powerscourt, tying the two systems together seamlessly to provide automated user enrolment at the point of sale of the ticket.

The Intreba software monitors for records of ticket purchases at the EPoS system, verifies the content and then processing the records into the access control system, assigning a temporary access profile for every purchased ticket.

In the time it takes the user to walk to the access reader to gain access to the estate, they are already processed in the access system with no further staff interaction required. Thorough endurance testing ensured that the software had no problem in dealing with multiple coachloads of people, in which tickets are printed and paid for in advance before being given to the visitors as they depart the coach.

Intreba further deployed a system to bring the same functionality to the annual membership management, collecting any changes made to the users held in the members database and updating their details as required. Any membership that expires is automatically updated at Net2 to ensure that only valid members are permitted access to the estate.

When Pioneer Security needed a secure reliable solution to integrate the tills with the access control system in Powerscourt House & Gardens, we found that Intreba was the only option. The software was written, installed and supported in a seamless manner. We would have no hesitation in recommending Intreba for all our future applications.”
